Special Guest Travel Contributor: Cissy Petty of New Orleans, Louisiana
If the idea of a wedding in your hometown with a reception at the local hotel ballroom makes you feel uninspired, consider a more unusual, interesting place to get married. Ever think of tying the knot in the jungle, amidst ancient ruins, or in the setting of the most romantic movie ever made? Make your wedding a unique affair that will make memories for a lifetime.
Weddings in Belize
Imagine a wedding in Belize – perhaps you’d exchange vows atop a Mayan Temple, on the beach, in the jungle, or underwater. Even a beach wedding is unusual in Belize with the jungle in the background. A parrot, humming bird or giant butterfly might even drop in as an unexpected wedding guest during an outdoor ceremony.
Recent changes in the law make wedding ceremonies even easier because Justices of the Peace are now allowed to perform ceremonies anywhere in the country rather than only in the Magistrate’s Courts.
Cyprus Weddings
What better place than the home of Aphrodite – the Greek goddess of love – to celebrate your own love. Weddings in Cyprus are ideal because of the warm Mediterranean sun that makes outdoor celebrations possible year-round. This island of ancient history has beautiful beaches, mountain peaks, and vineyards to host your Cyprus wedding. Cissy Petty of New Orleans, Louisiana tells us that it is best to plan at least a one-week vacation for a destination wedding because the bride and groom must be in Cyprus for at least five business days before the wedding can take place. Why not just plan a two-week vacation and make Cyprus your honeymoon spot as well?
Casablanca Weddings
Do what Rick and Ilsa never got to do – get married in Casablanca. However, “don’t expect the modern-day city to be like the movie,” says Cissy Petty. This metropolitan area has moved with the times and might be a disappointment if you are expecting a scene straight for the 1940s film (The film was actually shot in Florida.). Modern Casablanca – the white city – is breathtaking. Looking over the skyline, most of the buildings have the same white exterior and the city is quite clean. There are many grand hotels in which to schedule your wedding. Petty recommends that you stay inside the city during your vacation as the outlying areas are much different than the bustling city.
