For the past couple of years, debuting in February, 2004, thousands of people, young, middle-aged and old, from all over the world have descended on Las Vegas to see and listen to Sir Elton John perform his Red Piano Concert Spectacular. He has performed at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, the acoustically advanced concert venue constructed for Celine Dion.
The Red Piano Concert production, whose artistic complement was developed by David LaChapelle, elevated the bar set by previous Las Vegas performers in that it featured a multi-colored neon sculpture, pop art, inflatables dolls and animals, baubles, balloons, Elton’s Band and, of course, the shining gem: a high gloss red piano as the centerpiece.
If you didn’t get a chance to witness Elton John in Las Vegas, you can still buy your own front row ticket tomorrow, May 5, 2009, when The Red Piano Concert Spectacular is released on DVD & Blu-Ray HD. It contains the 14-song performance of The Red Piano show including “Candle in the Wind,” “Your Song,” “Rocket Man” and “Tiny Dancer.” If you buy the Blu-Ray disc you get a special bonus: a 50-minute documentary titled “The Life and Legacy Of Elton John” which has behind-the-scenes views of David LaChapelle’s set artistry and stage projections as well as unique raw videos produced and edited solely for the backdrop of the stage on only a few chosen songs.
Elton John’s career has spanned four decades and he is one of the top-selling solo artists of all time. With more than 50 Top 40 hits, and more than 250 million albums sold, an Oscar and five Grammy awards, he has one of the most successful and sustained careers in music history.
